Gardening Is Easy When You Follow This Advice
Well, you've decided to enter into gardening. Pretty, exciting, huh? Well, except for the fact that there is so much information that you have no clue where to even begin! Don't be afraid, gardening tips are here! Listed below are some tips that will help you get started and organized so that you can become a successful gardener.
Lay sod properly. Get your soil ready before you lay your sod. Pull any weeds that you see, and work to break up the soil so that it is a fine tilth. Next, you want to make the soil compacted by applying light but firm pressure. Make sure the soil creates a flat surface. The soil should be adequately moistened. Stagger your sod so that each joint offsets from joints in adjacent rows. After the sod has been flattened to an even surface, you can use soil to fill any remaining gaps. Sod must be watered every day for about two weeks, and then it will have rooted and be completely ready to be walked on.
A tip to prevent dirt from accumulating under your fingernails while working in the garden, use a bar of soap before starting. Rake your fingernails across a bar of soap and it will seal the undersides of your nails so that dirt will not collect beneath them. When you are finished in the garden, just use a brush to scrape the soap from beneath them and your nails will still be sparkling clean.
When planting a garden there should always be space reserved for essential kitchen herbs. These are available either fresh or dried in the grocery stores and are always expensive. Mint, parsley, basil, dill all can be grown in almost any climate. Also, these herbs are very easy to grow and can be used on a daily basis in the kitchen, and what is not used can be dried and stored for later use.
Check your store bought soil for pests. If you buy from big home improvement stores, your soil may have pests such as aphids. To kill the insects and their larvae, put the soil in a metal baking pan and place it covered in a 400 degree oven for 20 to 30 minutes. Let cool before using.
Now, don't you feel better after reading all those tips? That was a lot of information to think upon and read through, but at least now you know what to do and where to begin with your gardening. Plus, you can always refer back to the above list of tips if you forget. Pretty convenient, huh?
